Brominated Flame Retardants
LEGEND participates in national studies conducted by the Upholstered Furniture Action Council (UFAC) and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to assess current lab capabilities for determining brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in upholstered furniture. In 2019, participating labs received control samples with predetermined amounts of BFRs from UFAC. The goal of the study was to evaluate current laboratory technology and methodologies for detecting, identifying, and measuring BRFs in upholstry foams and fabrics. LEGEND’s participation in UFAC and MPCA studies has helped further develop sample methods and analysis of fabric and foam upholstery materials for BFRs.
